Travon Blog - Honest US Travel Guides

Editorial Policy

How we research, write, fact-check, update and correct every guide on Travon.

Last updated November 5, 2026

Readers make real decisions with our guides: which week to book, which trail to attempt, how much money to set aside. That is a responsibility, and this page explains how we try to earn your trust.

Who is responsible

Every guide on travon.blog is reviewed and approved by our editor-in-chief, Eric Gamble, before publication. The author named at the top of each article is responsible for its research. Our author pages list each writer’s background and areas of focus.

How we research

  • Official sources first. For national parks, we rely on the National Park Service and Recreation.gov. For roads, we use state departments of transportation. For entry rules, fees and schedules, we go to the operator or agency.
  • Firsthand knowledge where possible. When a recommendation is based on a visit, we say so. When it is based on research and reliable reports rather than a visit, we say that too.
  • Multiple sources for claims that matter. Prices, distances, opening seasons and safety information are cross-checked before publication.
  • Realistic numbers. Costs are presented as ranges with a date, not as best-case prices.

Independence

We do not accept payment for coverage, and we do not publish sponsored reviews. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no input into what we write and do not see articles before publication. If we ever accept a hosted trip or free service for research, which is rare, we will disclose it clearly in the article. Our funding is explained in the Affiliate Disclosure.

AI and automation

We may use software tools for tasks such as spell-checking, transcription and formatting. Our recommendations, judgments and final text are reviewed and approved by a human editor who takes responsibility for them.

Updates

Travel information goes stale. Our most-read guides are reviewed at least once a year, and seasonal guides are reviewed before their season. When a guide is meaningfully updated, the “Updated” date at the top changes. Small fixes, such as typos, do not change the date.

Corrections

If we make a factual error, we correct it as quickly as we can. Significant corrections, such as a wrong price, a closed trail or an incorrect rule, are noted at the end of the article with the date of the correction. To report an error, use our contact page and choose “Correction or update to a guide”, or email info@travon.blog.

Comments and reader submissions

We welcome questions and tips, and we moderate comments to keep them useful and respectful. We remove spam, suspicious links, personal attacks and anything unlawful.

Photography

We use our own photography and images licensed under the Unsplash License or with permission. Featured images illustrate a destination or theme and may not show the exact spot described.
